This well thought-out structuring of the narrative serves to focus on different aspects of the story one at a time rather than getting lost in a jumble of different narratives from the off. The book is split into four separate parts with a fifth section working to bring all the introduced plot threads into a symbiotic conclusion. What results is a very engaging first part of what looks to be a promising trilogy. This having been said, the narrative retains focus, with a few ‘core’ characters coming to prominence that dominate the course of the plot in a book that refuses to get lost in its own world-building. The scope is wide, the details complex, the characters numerous, and each of these aspects contribute greatly to its sense of scale. Scott Bakker (in a style reminiscent of Steven Eriksson’s Malazan series) presents us with a vast world that is undeniably epic in scope and proceeds to thrusts our heads into its mind-numbing magnitude with abandon. 5/30/2023 0 Comments Batman and Son by Grant MorrisonThe other guy, the nut in the Batman suit. See that weird graffiti? Be on the lookout for it throughout these early chapters. The mystery of this other Batman is handled in a few pages. Look closely and you’ll see that there are two Batmans (Batmen? For some reason Batmans FEELS more right to me) - the real one, above, and another one, behind the blast of the gun shooting Joker in the face. The composition on this page is a little confusing. He’s been affected by the Joker’s toxin.īLAM. The smiling maniac you see here on page one is Commissioner Gordon, a long time ally of Batman’s. (There is also a deluxe version of The Black Glove which contains it.) You can find it either in the graphic novel of the same name, or in Batman #655. The first chunk of Morrison’s story is called Batman and Son. Morrison rewards a careful reader, so I’ll also try to point out the more interesting bits. There are better annotations of Morrison’s stuff out there, but this is for someone who doesn’t know Two Face from Clayface. I’m writing this reading guide because I think EVERYONE should read it, even if you only have a passing familiarity with Batman. The story is not only epic in length but in scale and in the amount of crazy ideas and new life he injects into Batman’s world. Grant Morrison has been writing a continuous Batman story since 2006. You have just taken your first step into a larger world. 5/30/2023 0 Comments Mariana zapata lingusMy only regret is waiting so long to read this! Kulti has a detailed storyline that unfolds at an extremely leisurely pace. I finally caved when I discovered I could borrow the audio book from the library-16 hours worth of narration. Truth: I’ve wanted to read Kulti for quite some time, but I was put off by the long length. This was going to be the longest season of her life. Or the murderous urges he brought out in her. Nothing could have prepared her for the man she got to know. So she isn’t prepared for this version of Reiner Kulti who shows up to her team’s season: a quiet, reclusive shadow of the explosive, passionate man he’d once been. Sal had long ago gotten over the worst non-break-up in the history of imaginary relationships with a man that hadn’t known she’d existed. It didn’t take a week for twenty-seven-year-old Sal Casillas to wonder what she’d seen in the international soccer icon-why she’d ever had his posters on her wall, or ever envisioned marrying him and having super-playing soccer babies. When the man you worshipped as a kid becomes your coach, it’s supposed to be the greatest thing in the world. “Trust me, I’ve wanted to punch you in the face a time or five.” Published by Tantor Audio on July 28th 2015 5/30/2023 0 Comments Christy miller collection vol 1Aunt Marti loves to shop, and those surfers are cute-especially Todd. She has also written some stand alone work. Walker writes the “Spencer Cohen” series, the “Red Dirt” series, the “Thomas Elkin” series, the “Blind Faith” series, and the “Turning Point” series. Since then, she has been writing regularly. She once believed that people talking in her head was a weird thing, until she came across other authors who said that it was a normal thing. Walker likes when they do some dirty things, but likes it more when they fall in love with each other. She has some pretty boys who she gives life to with her words. Jennings also considers the ways in which cartography has shaped our history, suggesting that the impulse to make and read maps is as relevant today as it has ever been.įrom the “Here be dragons” parchment maps of the Age of Discovery to the spinning globes of grade school to the postmodern revolution of digital maps and GPS, Maphead is filled with intriguing details, engaging anecdotes, and enlightening analysis. Ken Jennings takes readers on a world tour of geogeeks from the London Map Fair to the bowels of the Library of Congress, from the prepubescent geniuses at the National Geographic Bee to the computer programmers at Google Earth.
